The History of Electrology
Temporary hair removal methods have been used throughout the ages, from pumice and quicklime to elaborate potions. None of them were permanent until electrolysis was invented.
In 1875, ophthalmologist Dr. Michel was looking for a way to remove his patients’ ingrown eyelashes. He inserted a fine wire attached to a battery into a hair follicle and released a small current, and found that the current destroyed the hair. Electrolysis had been discovered, and people seeking permanent hair removal could finally achieve results.
Electrolysis has stood the test of time. It is fully accepted by medical doctors and is recognized by the American Medical Association as the only safe and effective form of permanent hair removal.
